Teaching

Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens.
— Shinichi Suzuki

Suzuki

The Suzuki method is how I started on the violin, and it is a pillar of my teaching today. I was able to hone my teaching of the Suzuki material while I was a teacher with the UT String Project, and I completed my Suzuki training for Books 1 and 2 with Dr. Laurie Scott.

Middle & High School

I have taught private lessons, group classes, and chamber music for middle and high schoolers in Austin-area public schools and in Colorado. Additionally, my private students in 6th-12th grades have consistently auditioned successfully for their Texas Region Honor Orchestras.

Collegiate

From 2018 - 2022, I was the instructor of violin at Texas Lutheran University, where one of my students won the concerto competition in 2020. I have also given solo and chamber music masterclasses at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi.

Teaching Philosophy

My upbringing has strongly influenced how I approach teaching my own students. I believe that listening and the development of a good ear is essential to learning a musical instrument. However, by no means do I feel it is the only cornerstone of music; musical literacy, a basic understanding of theory, and a comfortable setup are all aspects that I focus on from the very first lesson. Most of all, I am interested in finding a way of teaching that is most effective for YOU--there is no "one-size-fits-all" for something so personal as playing an instrument.

My hope for my students is that they will apply skills they learn from their violin lessons to whatever their future holds, whether musical or not.

I am now accepting a limited number of students for the ‘24-25 school year!
